COLLECTION OF LIVING INSECTS. TO FIGHT UNWANTED FLORA. WELLINGTON, Friday. A curious collection of living insects destined for an assault on unwanted flora in New Zealand has been secured by Dr. David Miller, Director of Noxious Weeds Reserach and entomologist at the Cawthepn Institute, who has returned after representing the Dominion at the International Entomological Conference. Dr. Miller ,took the opportunity to study a wide range of economic and entomological problems in the United States, Britain, France, Italy, Germany and South America and secured supplies of insects which attack piripiri, blackberry, gorse, ragwort and fern. He arranged for the introduction of the parasite of codlin moth, and secured from East Mailing a new’ strain of apple which will resist the woolly aphis completely, while yielding fruit of high quality. He acquired considerable information regarding the latest measures concerning the control of cattle tick and forestry pests.
