STOPPAGE AT MINE.
EXPLANATION BY COMPANY. ray Telegraph.—Press Association.) WESTPORT, Thursday. In connection with the stoppage of work at the Stockton mine, the company wishes it to be understood that it is not endeavouring to increase the number of shifts, but is simply asking for a rearrangement of the hours of the two shifts worked at the mine between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. .This is in the interests of economical working.' Further, the company considers that tiie union members commuted a breach of agreement by being idle on Monday for a demonstration.
