PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.

FINANCE BILL PABBED. GRANT IN LIEU • OF LEAVE. OBJECTED TO, BUT CARRIED. (Special to Times!) . WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Finance Bill (No. 2) was read a third time in the House of Representatives and passed. . v The House went into committee of supply to consider the Supplementary Estimates. Some discussion took place on a grant of £725 to Mr R. E. Hayes, Secretary .to the Treasury, in lieu of accumulated leave. Mr W. Lee Martin (Labour —Raglan) moved that the grant be deleted. However, the motion was lost on the voices, and the Supplementary Estimates, comprising votes totalling £123,336 in the ordinary revenue account, £100,429 for Public Works Fund, £62,058 for separate accounts, and £57,065 for accounts outside the Public Account, ■were passed. The House rose at 11.50 p.m. until 10.30, a.m. to-morrow.

PAPATOETOE-PAPAKURA.

DUPLICATION OF RAILWAY. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The track work in connection with the ' Papatoetoe-Papakura railway duplication is practically completed and the department is now awaiting the 'arrival of interlocking and signalling equipment, according to advice received to-day by Mr J. N. Massey, M.P. for Franklin, from the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. Veitch. The date of the arrival of this equipment is at present uncertain. It is' thought, however, that the double working will be in full'operation by February or possibly a little earlier.
