FOOTBALLERS’ DANCE.
KIHIKIHI CLUB’S SUCCESS. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. To fittingly celebrate the achievement of the United Kihikihi Footba.l Club in winning, in its first season, the Waipa Rugby Union’s senior championship the executive of the club promoted a dance in the Kihikihi Town Hall, and the success of the function must have been very gratifying to the promoters and all associated with the club. The attendance was large and representative. Delightful music was supplied by the Te Awamu.u rchestra supplemented by extras from Miss Quinlan and Messrs J. Lowe and B. Elliot. Messrs L. Kay and H. Brill were the M.’s C. Dancing was indulged in until the early hours of the morning. During an interval, Mr Roger Kay, president of the club, introduced Mr A. J. Shepherd, Waipa Rugby Union executive’s chairman, and that gentleman proceeded to present the trophies won during the past football season. He heartily congratulated Kihikihi Club upon winning the senior championship. They had played ten games, won seven, drawn one, and lost one. The total points for were 83, and against 70. Mr Shepherd stated that Te Awamutu were runners-up to Kihikihi in the senior competition, while it had also won the junior and championships. /High School had triumphed in the fourth grade, and St. Joseph’s Convent won the primary schools’ seven-aside tournament. Mr B. Kelly, as captain of the Kihikihi Club, was then called upon to receive the Spear Cup and Nation Rosebowl for the senior championship, and the Ballistite Cup for winning the seniors’ knock-out competition that closed the season. Mr Kelly thanked Mr Shepherd and the Rugby Union. He said the thirds were largely responsible for winning the Ballistite Cup, and as an appreciation he asked the captain of the thirds, Mr Doug. Christie, to accept a rosebowl as a mark of appreciation of that help. (Applause). . Mr Shepherd then called upon Mr Bert Wilkes (captain of Te Awamutu seniors) to accept the Insurance Cup for ■ runners’up »in the championship, Mr A. Brill (Te Awamutu juniors captain) to take charge of the Park Shield and Doyle Cup* and Mr E. Adams (Te Awamutu third-grade captain) the Waipa Union’s Cup and the Silvester Cup. The trophies were handed over amid applause.
