DAIRY CONTROL BOARD.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ls it' not nearly time we got rid of that expensive contraption called th-e Control Board? “When its heart' failed it, 'twere better it had never climbed at all.” However, in view of the recent corespondence, it seems about time we cut out this expensive, and apparently useless, institution. It claims for itself that it had been the means of reducing insurance and shipping freights, and' trots out this information in justification of its existence annually in the chairman’s report; whereas the insurance and freight reduction were made. in the first year of the Board’s existence. It is only an expensive appendage oh the dairying industry; obviously It would be useless to ask the members of the sinecure to commit felo de se and throw away about £SOO a year and. a railway pass for fun. I would not If I were in their place. Nevertheless it behbves us to look up some other method to disband them. I believe, it requires the signatures of one-third of the voting power to demand another poll on the subject. Would it not he a good idea if the big company, in order to feel the pulse of the Auckland Province, were to circularise the various factories, and if the response was at all encouraging 'then canvass the various factories for the one-third signatures required to demand a poll. It would he interesting to hear other people’s opinion about it.—l am, eto., E. EXLEY. Hamilton, October 23, 1930.
