The eclipse of the sun to-day was observed by the New Zealand expedition on Niuafou Island in beautiful weather conditions. All the members of the party were satisfied with the results. There were no clouds in the sky and the weather was fair. The photographs were satisfactory—a good flash spectrogram, a faint corona, two tong streamers and six medium prominences. Astronomers in Sydney were sadly disappointed this morning when heavy clouds and misty rain made it impossible to observe the partial eclipse of the sun. qffie Government Astronomer, Mr. James Nangle, was at his post, at 6.18 a.m., when the eclipse was timed to begin, and remained till 7.40 a.m., but saw nothing of it.
