SAFE IN PORT.
ADVENTUROUS VOYAGE. TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copju-ight. BRISBANE, June 16. A perilous voyage was completed when the motor ship Beulah arrived at Townsville from San Francisco. The crew once took to the lifeboats, but boarded the vessel again. The vessel suddenly listed to port when well out at sea, and the deck cargo had to he jettisoned. The Beulah struck a cyclone when she -was 100 miles east of Townsville. The crew had a terrifying experience, and they thought that at any minute she would go to the bottom. Every lifeboat was smashed, and there was not a dry cabin. The crew’s personal belongings were lost, and they went for days without sleep. The ship was a week overdue.
On the arrival of the Beulah at Apia on May 17 the master, Captain Hart, reported that there was a heavy swell on the night of April 24, and at 7 a.m. the deck cargo was thrown to port. The vessel lay on her beam > ends for some time, and the deck cargo of live cases of motor cars and benzine had to be thrown overboard. She then listed to starboard, and the cargo below had to be trimmed. Considerable damage was done to the port bulwarks.
