BOY SEVERELY INJURED.
WAIST-HIGH IN BURNING COAL. FATHER EXTRICATES VICTIM. BOTH IN THE HOSPITAL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HUNTLY, Monday. Jack Angove, aged six years, was admitted to the Waikato Hospital on Saturday evening suffering from severe burns as a result of stepping up to his waist into a heap "of burning coal slack at Huntly late in the afternoon. The boy was returning from a football match with his father, Mr. T. Angove, an enginedriver employed by the Railways Department. They took a short cut along the railway line near the old Extended mine. Air. Angove svas walking ahead when he, heard the lad call out. He looked back and saw that the boy had walked into a burning slack heap. Mr. Angove hurriedly went to his assistance, but in the meantime the boy had struggled to extricate himself and was-up to his waist in the burning mass. In trying to help him Air. Angove’s hands and arms were severely burned. The boy was eventually dragged clear and his father, although suffering pain himself, carried him to a nearby residence. Air. Angove was also conveyed to the Waikato Hospital. The hospital authorities reported today that both victims passed a comfortable night.
