REFEREE ASSAULTED.

CARRIED OFF UNCONSCIOUS. AN ANGRY PLAYER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. The referee, Mr K. Nodder, was carried off the field unconscious in the senior Rugby competition match between Okato and Tukapa, at Okato. He was knocked out by an angry player who disagreed with his rulings. The match was • abandoned, with Okato leading by 6 points to 3. With Tukapa attacking strenuously, feeling was running high, Okato supporters disagreeing with the referee’s rulings. According to the referee, the climax was that he ordered a player off the field for persistent “cheek.” The player’s brother came up, and, it is alleged, used bad language. The referee ordered him off also, and he replied with a left swing to the jaw, which stretched the referee on the ground unconscious. The player walked to the dressingshed, and' those ,in control declared the game off. The referee soon recovered consciousness.
