The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe, attended by Sir John Hanham, A.D.C., will leave Auckland by the second express this evening on visits to Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Palmerston North before returning to Wellington for the opening of Parliament.
Miss Margaret Bonfield, Minister of Labour, left London for Geneva on Friday to attend the 14th session of the International Labour Conference.
Mr. S. Saunders, the well-known journalist, of Wellington is an inmate lof a private hospital. He expects to be out in a few days.
Raglan is about to lose one of its best-known residents, Mr T. Parker, member of tlie County Council and chairman of the Town Board. Mr Parker has done much for the district and his departure will be generally regretted.
The friends of the Rev. J. D. McArthur, of Palmerston North (formerly of Hamilton), will learn with regret of the death of his father, Mr James McArthur, of Christchurch, who passed away last week at the age of 79 years.
The followng promotons are announced in the New Zealand Gazette-. —The Waikato Regiment: Captain J. A. McDonald, Ist Battalion, to be major; Lieutenant G. F. Pryce, from the Hawke’s Bay Regiment, to be lieutenant, with seniority as from May 16, 1927, and is posted to the Ist Battalion.
