PLUNKET SOCIETY.
NGARUAWAHIA BRANCH. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Ngaruawahia branch of the Plunket Society. I-luntly was represented by 'Mrs George, president of the Huntly branch, and Mrs Bright. The Mayor, Mr H. J. Sampson, took the chair. The balance-sheet of the central body showed a credit balance of £144 19s 6d, a gain of £46 on last year’s balance. The reports of the sub-branches showed an equally sound position in each case. Te Kauwhata showed a credit balance of £IOB, Taupiri £59, and Huntly £42 7s 6d. In discussing the balance-sheet, Dr. Martin pointed out that in every case the bulk of the funds was paid by the ratepayers, while the contributions by the users amounted to very little. As in the case of public hospitals the matter requires a re-ad-justment in the near future. President’s Report. In presenting a report for the year ended March 31, the president, Mrs Birkett, stressed the very successful year just ended. During the year 6421 attendances had been received by mothers and babies in the district, compared with 6319 for last year. The committee recorded its appreciation of the work carried out by Nurse MoKenzie. The Plunket tent at the regatta had received 300 visits from mothers and babies. The committee expressed appreciation of the liberal grant of £4O per annum made by the council for the last four years. Mr Warburton proposed a vote of thanks to the outgoing executive for the able way in which they had carried out the w’ork. Dr. Martin endorsed the remarks. Eleotlon of Offloers. The election o 1 officers resulted:— President, Mrs Birkett; vice-presi-dents, Mrs Adams and Mrs Clark; secretary, Mrs T. Paterson; committee, Mesdames Martin (2), Hall, Katavitch; advisory board, Messrs Adams, Blewden, Brewer, A. B. Jones, R. MacFarlane, Revs. Martin and Hall, and Dr. Martin. Nurse’s Report. In the report presented by Nurse McKenzie the satisfactory condition of health among the children generally was emphasised, there being only one death, and that caused by pneumonia. The satisfactory results of the year’s work are evidenced very largely in a perusal of the attendances paid by the nurse:—Ngaruawahia: Visits at rooms, 1446; at homes, 92. Huntly: At rooms, 2153; at homes, 39. Taupiri: At rooms, 624; at homes, 19. Te Kauwhata: At rooms, 9-84; at homes, 116. Horotiu: Home visits, 436.
