PRESS CONFERENCE.

LONDON MEETING. SESSIONS IN JUNE. The Empire Press Union arrangements for the Imperial Press Conference, to be held at London next month, are nearing completion. At this, the fourth of the series of conferences so far arranged by the union, the proprietors of the newspaper and~periodical Press of Great-Britain and Northern Ireland will be the hosts of approximately 100 newspaper proprietors and editors from the Dominions and Colonies and from India during their passages to and from England and during the programme in the British Isles, extending throughout June. As at the three preceding conferences, held respectively in Britain (1909), Canada (1920), and Australia (1925), the object in view is to-bring together the proprietors, editors, and directing heads of newspapers and periodicals published throughout the British Empire to discuss the common interests of the Press as a public institution, responsible in a large measure for promoting the political, economic, and social well-being of the Empire as a whole, and also of the constituent countries individually. The subjects for the agenda will be in two groups. One of these will deal with technical matters, such as Imperial communications for Press purposes, by wireless telegraphy, cable, and air mails, and also modern methods of newspaper production. Other sessions will have a wider point of view, and among the speakers at these will be the British Prime Minister, the President of the Board of Trade, Mr Baldwin, and Mr Lloyd George. The organisation of the conference is in the hands of a committee, appointed by the Empire Press Union.
