JUNE 3.

HELP THE CHILDREN. WAIKATO TRAVELLERS’ CAMPAIGN It is not many days now to June 3, the big day for ' the Port Waikato children’s camp. On that date the Waikato Commercial Travellers’ Association will hold its ■ big bargain packet scheme, the proceeds of which will be devoted to providing permanent sleeping quarters and other necessary buildings in the camp. Tickets will be on sale at Is each, and every ticket will receive a packet of a value not less than Is. Individuals and firms throughout the area affected by the camp,, an. area which stretches from Mercer in the north to Taumarunui in the south, and whioh includes , the liotorua. and Thames Valley districts, have responded well to the travellers’ appeal for goods, etc., towards the scheme, and almost every conceivable description of gift will thus be available, from household articles for the housewives and useful gifts for the men, to ■toys for the little ones. To elaborate any further w r ould he to spoil the surprise, but it is sufficient to say that no one purchasing a ticket will have cause 1 for disappointment at what it brings. Apart altogether from the actual material gain to the purchaser, there is. the vastly more important and Samaritan aspect that every ticket .purchased will , help some’ poor and indigent child to enjoy a holiday, .who would not otherwise enjoy one. It will also aid towards the ! provision of proper care and supervision (including ' any necessary locomotion) for poor people requiring temporary change of air or special protection or treatment. ; : ,1 In furtherance of their scheme the Waikato Commercial Travellers will hold a big drive for goods on Saturday throughout, the whole of the country' districts, and "calls will he made at most private residences. The territory to be covered wilL include Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Pirongia, Whatwhata, Raglan, Huntly, Taupiri, Xgaruawahia, Orini, Gordonton, Wailoa, Morrinsville, etc. Unfortunately, it will be impossible to call at every house, and it is therefore specially requested that any householders or shopkeepers who have not been called on, and who desire to donate goods, should ring any of the following telephone numbers —1364, Travellers’ office; 1793, Mr Rabone; 3368, Mr Loveridge. On receipt of a telephone communication a call will be made for the goods. Parcels ' of produce, vegetables, jams, pickles, etc-, will be specially acceptable.
