FALSE MESSAGE.
POLICE CALLED TO HOUSE. FINE OF £25 IMPOSED. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A charge of causing a wrongful message to be sent over the telephone was preferred against John Gear chaw - ski in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. The police said the accused was the owner of a house at Marshland. He had let it hut wanted possession, and used a subterfuge to that end. He thought that if he got the police they would gain admittance and he would be able to put the tenants and their furniture out. Therefore he went to a neighbour and asked her to ring the police, stating that there was a dead man in the house. There was no one there when two constables arrived. Accused was fined £25, in default three months’ imprisonment.
