HAMILTON MARKETS. WHEAT VERY FIRM. , Produce. Pollard' is creating a keen demand and 'bran is selling well, report the local merchants, with the prices'on a par with .previous, sales. Wheat is exceptionally firm and prices are likely to harden with the stock in the hands of the wheat pool. A shipment of maize is expected from South Africa towards the end v of June and with Bay of Plenty crops on the market then prices should he easier. Oats are fairly scarce with a good demand. Seeds are not being heavily enquired after though there is a.’ keen demand for basic slag. Few shipments of slag have come to hand and the manure is hard to obtain. Pig meals are still being well sought after. All prices are on a par with last week’s rates. Fruit. Supplies are again more plentiful with a steady demand for all lines of apples and pears at higher rates. Bananas and Island oranges will again be in full supply from now on and lower prices will rule. Hutt tomatoes are in heavy supply, but , the demand has slackened considerably and prices arc low. Regular ''fortnightly consignments of bananas should keep the prices steady, and a very heavy shipment of Island oranges direct to Auckland to-day will ensure much lower prices should the fruit arrive in good condition. .- . - Prices are ■ as--follows: —Apples; Baliarats, 6s 9d to 7s 6d; Rome Beauty, 6s, 9d to'7s 6d; Sturmer cookers, 6s to 6s 6d; dessert, 6s 9d to 7s 6d; Delicious, first grade, 7s-6d to Bs, seconds 5s Gd to 6s 3d; cooking varieties, 5s to Gs; Pears': Winter Neiis, 9s to 10s; Winter 'Cole, 9s to 10s; Caprimonts, 7s "Gd to 8s Gd; cooking varieties, 6s 6d to 7s 6d: Tomatoes: Hot house. lOcl to Is per lb.; Lower Hutts, 5s to 6s: Passions/is to 5s per box of eight, dozen. ' Fiji Mandarins:. 9s to 10s per ' case of about 10 dozen. Tree tomatoes: 6s to 6s Od box. Vegetables. There is very little alteration, in the .'prices for vegetables with the exeep- :: tion of cauliflowers which have hardened in price. Good quality are now realising 8s to 9s a bag, and large sacks 11s. Prices are as follows:—■ Cauliflowers, Bs. to 11s; cabbages, 4s to 5s sack; kumeras, 4s -.-to 5s per sugar bag; swedes, 2s to 2s 6d sugar bag; pumpkins, 5s to 6s cwt.; celery, 2s 6d to 4s per bundle; carrojs, parsnips, beet and turnips, Is doz. Poultry. Large entries of poultry came forward during the week to a much improved market, table birds being most sought after. Pullets have come forward in large numbers but have not reached the prices obtained last year. The following are the quotations:— 8.0. cockerels made 3s 10cl to 4s lid, small/2s 3d to 2s lid; W.L. cOokerels, 2s lid to 3s 9d; 8.0. liens, 2s to 3s 6d; W. Fish, The local dealers that fish has been fairly scarce* during the week though:-enough has ■ been coming to hand to satisfy the steady demand.
