LICENSE CANCELLED.

MOTOR CYCLIST’S PLEA. MAGISTRATE ADAMANT. ACCIDENT AT BREWERY CORNER. “I am not going to allow you to ride a motor-cycle for 12 months,” remarked Mr Wyvern JWilson, S.M., at the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court today to a young man named James Hamlin White, of East Tamalci. White had pleaded guilty to riding his motor-cycle whilst intoxicated, and he told His Worship that he was a dairy factory hand and had nine miles to go to work. • If his license was cancelled he would have to give up 1 his job, as he was physically incapable of pushing an ordinary cycle over such a distance. “I am not going to allow you to ride a motor-cycle for .12 months,” repeated His Worship. “But if I take out a prohibition order Your Worship?” “I would advise you to do that in any case,” said the Magistrate, who was, however, adamant in the matter of the cancellation of the license. • The incident out of which the case arose was an accident that occurred at the brewery corner, Hamilton, shortly after noon on April 24, w'hen White skidded on his motor-cycle on turning from Victoria Street into Bridge Street, and crashed into a number of workmen sitting at lunch. As a result a man named Tallas had a leg broken, one Hughes was considerably knocked about, a barrier was smashed, a shed damaged, and White himself received fairly extensive injuries. Senior-Sergeant Sweeney said defendant admitted having had one whisky at Taupiri and two at Hamilton, and that his faculties were impaired as a result of the liquor he had consumed. In a statement to the Magistrate, defendant reaffirmed his admisison to the police, but stated that although his faculties were somewhat dulled, •he was not drunk. He told the Magistrate that the accident had already cost him over £2O, and he asked His Worship to take this into account. His Worship: I will do so. Instead of fining you £2O, I will fine you £lO, and your license will be cancelled for 12 months.
