WEDDING.
NEWTON—BRAY. •• St. John’s Anglican Church, Te Awamutu, was the scene of the wedding last week of Miss Linda Bray, younger daughter of Mrs. C. D. Downes, Mayoress of Te Awamutu, to the Rev. Charles Melville Newton, younger son I of Mr. C. T. Newton, of Christchurch, i The church had been decorated by the i girl friends of the bride and the officiating clergyman was Archdeacon Gordon Bell, of Cambridge, VicarGeneral of the Waikato Diocese. He was assisted'by the Rev. P. Boyt, of Frankton. The bride, who was given away by her step-father, Mr. C. G. Downes, wore a frock of ivory lace over georgette and silver lace and with a large hip 'bow of duchess .satin. The border of the frock was of tulle and the lace points of the skirt reached the ankle. Her long tulle veil, with silver hem-line, fell from a coronet of orange blossoms and silver leaves; and a bouquet of white rose sand chrysanthemums with fern and long tulle streamers was carried. Miss Eleanor Peake was bridesmaid, and wore a frock with bodice of salmon pink moire satin and skirt of picot edged flsh-net over georgette. The large moire bow finished with ends that fell to the hemline. A tight-fitting gold net cap was also worn, and her bouquet was of pink and blue flowers with pink tulle streamers. The two little flowergirls, Heather Oliphant and Tui Armstrong, wore frocks of pink flsh-net, with tight-fitting bodices and threetiered skirts falling to the ankles. They were circled at the waist with small blue and pink flowers. Tight-fitting gold lace caps were also worn, and they carried posies of pink and blue flowers. Mr Hugh Hickling, of Opotiki, was best man. Acting as ushers were Mr J. Oliphant and Mr W. Winter. After the ceremony a large number of guests were entertained at the Parish Hall, where the wedding breakfast was held. Mrs Downes received, her guests in a floral georgette ensemble, with tonings of pink, a'black georgette coat, and a black wide-brimmed velour hat. Mrs Cheviot Bell (Wellington), sister of the bridegroom, wore a frock in wine-shaded satin, with felt hat to match, and carried a bouquet of violets and dahlias in lavender and purple shadeSi .
