TERRIFIC TORNADO.
THREE STATES SWEPT.
SIXTEEN DEATHS REPORTED
GREAT LOSS OF PROPERTY.

A destructive tornado swept over the States of Tennessee, Arkansas, and Texas. Sixteen people were killed and about 100 were Injured, the majority of the victims being negroes. Plantations, cabins and farm buildings were torn to pieces by the wind. Medical aid is being rushed to the stricken areas, with which communications are dislocated. In Texas serious floods have occurred and hundreds of people are homeless. The Red River broke its banks and swept away bridges, cutting off highway and railway traffic and driving residents on the lowlands to higher points. Rescue parties are struggling in the swirling flood waters in an endeavour to save trapped people. The losses in crops already are tremendous. The rainfall has been heavy for several days and is expected tc continue. Many levees are feared to be breaking. The tornado caused damage to the business section of Somersville, Tennessee, estimated at £17,000.
