MOTORING FATALITY.

CANADIAN ENGINEER KILLED. STOLEN CAR SMASHED. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N. Tuesday. A report made to the police yesterday afternoon that a car had been taken from King Street had an unexpected sequel last evening. At 9.30 p.m. the dead body of a man was brought to the public hospital by an unknown motorist. Later it was discovered that the dead man was William Stafford Anderson, whose passport indicated that he was an engineer from Canada. He had met his death in a motor smash at Toanui Crossing, near Feilding. Apparently deceased, w'ho was calling himself Bryce, called at Bunnythorpe Hotel in a car of the same description as the missing one and which to-day was identified as the latter car, and offered to take twe waitresses to Feilding, where they were going. They accepted, and not knowing the road the driver did not cross the railway line. He continued over a bad stretch, and collided with the boundary sign, the car somersaulting twice.

The girls crawled clear, and found the man lying on the road severely hurt, dazed, bruised and cut. They reached a nearby residence to secure help. Meanwhile a. motorist arrived, and picking up the victim conveyed him in an unconscious state (o the hospital, where he arrived beyond aid. The missing car was owned by Air. F. S. Goldingham.
