KITCHEN EVENING.
AT MATANGI. A kitchen evening was tendered to Miss Hildah Thompson by her many friends of Matangi and surrounding districts in the Matangi Hall. Musical honours were accorded the guest upon her arrival, and she was the recipient of a beautiful bouquet, presented by little Miss Pat Hicks, on behalf of the ladies of the United Guild.
A table heavily laden with gifts was was brought.-into the hall, and the chairman (Mr J. T. Bryant) invited Miss Thompson to open the many parcels. The result revealed a splendid collection of useful articles. ‘ Mr E. Thompson thanked the friends on behalf of his sister. Reference was made by the Revs. D. H. Hay and A. 0. Harris to the sterling qualities of the guest and the valued services rendered by her in connection with the church and Sunday school. Mr Bryant, superintendent of the Sunday school, expressed regret at the loss which -would be keenly felt throughout the district. Mr T. Thompson responded, thanking all present for the many gifts presented and the kindly references made to his daughter. Those who contributed to the musical programme were:—-Mrs EHicks and Miss M. Shaw, pianoforte duet; Miss E. Neilsen, songs; Mr E. Hicks, comic songs; Mr A. Webster, songs; Miss Grice, violin solos; Mr G. Thompson, songs; Miss 'Torry, monologues. The accompaniments were played by Mesdamcs A. Webster, E. Hicks, and Neilsen,, and Mr Albert Bryant, A sumptuous supper, provided by the ladies, brought an enjoyable evening to a close.
