FOOTBALL IN WAIKATO.
• ' ((To the Editor.) Sir,—As one interested in the welfare of Waikato football I would like to make a few remarks regarding same. Since witnessing the complete defeats Waikato has suffered at the hands of Auckland in recent years I ha.ve wondered why the selectors have not chosen different methods whereby they could remedy these defeats, and for a change treat the public to something which would not be all onesided.- Now may I suggest that previous to. June 3 a series of trial matches be played—say, Hamilton and Taupiri versus the rest ,of the Waikato, or last year’s Waikato Reps, versus the rest .of . the Waikato. . The former, I think, would be the best proposal. I have witnessed several matches in and around Taupiri, and ,am quite convinced that, given encouragement, there is some good talent. to be found there. Taupiri is a young union and must not be neglected. It is up to the Waikato Union to do its utmost to support these young unions, as another code is always watching and waiting for a chance to work "havoc wherever it can. The Waikato is the greatest butter-fat producing district in New Zealand. Why not -make it the best football producing.district also?—I an “OLD TIMER.”
