Proceedings were introduced by the Malden Stakes, which was run in two divisions. Royal Finance won the first division from Peruse and Etehi Rangi. In the second division the verdict went to Biddy Comet over Sister White and Sweet Whisper. There were eleven starters In the Frankton Handicap Hurdles. At the conclusion of the mile and a-half contest Glenstar, who was sixth favourite, was in front with Grand Arch and Glena Bay in the minor placings. The big field of twenty went to the post to contest the Juvenile Handicap, a five-furlong journey. King Ford was showing the way at the judge's box with Karangapai and Wild Time as his closest followers. The leading event of the meeting, the Storey Memorial Cup Handicap, was decided over a distance of one mile and a-quarter. There were fourteen starters and an interesting contest resulted in favour of the EUersile-trained Corinax who scored by a neck from In the Shade with Prince of Grange in third place.

The Linley Handicap, a one mile event for hacks, attracted eleven runners. As the horses passed the finishing post Page Boy was leading Te Hoia by a neck with Motere the closest of the others.

Sweet Whisper piloted Biddy Comet, Quid Day, Land Measure, ‘Sister White, Silver Division and Kiri across the top. Biddy Comet had charge into the straight and came on to win by a length and a-half from Sister White, who beat Sweet Whisper by a neck. La*id Measure was fourth, with Guid Day, Momonatui, Kiri, Benighted and Silver Division in that order. Time, 1.15 4-5 secs. Biddy Comet did it very comfortably and is in advanced condition for racing. Sister White did not have the best of it in the early running and the sister to White Comet and half-sister to Paddon promises to be useful. Sweet Whisper was always well placed but tired down the long straight. Land Measure ran a fair race, while Guid Day, who was in it for the full journey, looks like an improver. JUVENILE HANDICAP. King Ford with £IBOS was a double figure eighth fancy while

Karangapai, who was returning over a third of a century to win, had £63 on his chances.

Rafflight jumped out clear but Biddy’s Boy soon took charge, showed Die way across the top stretch to Rafflight, King Ford, Imamint, Karangapai and Hampton Park. When they levelled up for the run home Biddy’s Boy, King Ford, Rafflight, Hampton Park, ImaminL and Karangapai were all prominent. King Ford held on well over the closing stages to get the verdict by half a length from Karangapai who was a neck in front of Wild Time. Rafflight was fourth with Hampton Park, Foot Rule, Imamint, Lapstown, Abbey Dream and Biddy’s Boy in that order. Time, lm 1 l-ss. i The winner showed a strong burst of speed throughout the journey and finished very solidly. This was his fourth start, he previously having two thirds to his credit. Karangapai finished on well and is a speedy sort. Wild Time was also running on strongly over the final stages. Rafflight ran a useful race and should be improved by it as also should Imamint. Tradesman did not get clear of the ruck. Biddy’s Boy showed a great burst of speed from a wade out position at the barrier but stopped over the concluding portion of the trip.

perature and Grand Arch were still out forcing the pace and showed the way across the top to Glenstar, Th'C Lamb, Master Roley, Mangani, Waltzcr and Glena Bay. As the leaders landed in the straight Grand Arch, Temperature and Glenstar were pretty well on terms with Glena Ray half-a-dozen lengths back, and Master Roley leading t'he rest. Glenstar did best in the run to the judge, (o win by three lengths from Grand Arch, who was two lengths and a-half in iront ol Glena Bay. Temperature was fourth, with Master Roley, Kawini, Mangani, The Lamb, Waltzcr and Mountain Guide in that order and Town Lad down the straight. Time,, 2.42 3-5 Glenstar, who was at a liberal price, gave an improved exhibition of jumping to that shown when he won at Paeroa and is going to be more than useful at the business. His superior pace left the others standing over the last half-mile. Grand Arch and Temperature also displayed speed and useful jumping ability. Glena Bay finished on well after being a long way out of it in the opening mile. The Lamb, Kawini and Mangani will each be improved by the run and also better suited by Monday's journey.
