The Stolen Princess.

(Sent by Doris Jensen, Miramar.)

All Fairyland was sad. It seemed as if nothing would make it bright, again. Once the fairies had been very happy and rejoiced in their beautiful home. But little Princess Sunshine had been stolen, and nobody knew how. Now, in Fairyland there was a little fairy named Tiny, because she was so small. All the other fairy folk laughed at her when she said she would bring hack the princess. But though she did not know how she was going to do it, Tiny was in earnest. She had always been fond of the princess, and her greatest ambition was to become one of her maids of honour; and the queen had said whoever found the princess should have any wish they like granted. So one day Tiny set out to find little Princess Sunshine. Suddenly she met an old man. “Please can you tell me where Princess Sunshine is?” she asked. “Ay, I can tell you!” he said. “Come with me and I’ll take you to her.” Tiny followed eagerly, and he led her along a path until they came to a cottage. He took her into the cottage and opened the door of the back room. “There she is," he said, and, pushing Tiny in, he locked the door after her. Tiny ran to it, but it would not open, and, turning, she saw Princess Sunshine watching in amazement. “I came to rescue you,” Tiny said, “but you are no better off than before.” But Princess Sunshine said: “You can go through the bars of that window.” So Tiny did, and went to tell the queen, who sent out soldiers to rescue her daughter, and Tiny was made the j Princess’s maid of honour. And I’m sure she deserved it.
