AN IMPORTANT PETITION. MAORIS CLAIM £17,000. ROTORUA, Monday. An important petition was presented before the Chief .Judge, Mr R. N. Jones, at the Native Land Court this morning by Pirika Te Miroi and others, praying for payment of rents and other fees alleged to be outstanding in connection with Urn Rotorua township lands known as the Pukeroa Owhata block. The petitioners claimed £17,000 for rent and fees, together with interest, alleged to be owing for the period 1881 to 1889. The reserves referred to were the Grammar School, the sanatorium, Kuerau reserve, part of the Arikikapakapa golf links, the Postmaster bath, Pukeroa, the post office and Government offices. The hearing was adjourned.
