The fifth spell also finished with the score board the same, but interest ran high throughout the eight minutes' play. Both teams strove hard to pierce the defence, but strength in the siiooting was more apparent than accuracy in direction. Matangi attacked from the last line in the sixth chukka and a running fight the whole length of the field saw Brown and Chi jby in shooting position, the former goaling. From the change-over Matangi again pressed and following a short tussle in front of the posts, Phillips sent in a “back hander” that was never in doubt. —s—l.5—1. A long drive by Wilson shortly after narrowly missed the post, but Upton made no mistake with his -chance which came immediately after, the willow sailing high between the flags, making the score 6—2. Matangi were not long in replying, Phillips leading Ihe attack to score, the game ending a few moments later with Matangi taking the cup by seven goals to two.
