April 20 —Taranaki. April 20—Ashburton. May 3—Cambridge. May 8, 10 —Forbury. May 17 -—Oamaru. May 31—Canterbury Park, June 3—Canterbury Park. June 7—Ashburton. June 21, 23—AucklandTHE WAIKATO CLUB. MEETING ON SATURDAY. EXCELLENT FIELDS ENGAGED. The Waikato Club’s Autumn meeting, which will be held at the Claude- : lands course on Saturday next, prol mises to be one of the un si successj ful in the history of the local instituI tion. With a total of 120 horses for the eight races, the average is just under 10 a race, which is a splendid result and a testimony to the work of the club's handicappcr, Mr C. E. i Goosman, of Hamilton. With 18 in j the held for the Waikato Handicap, I the response to the leading event of ! the card has been excellent and a race fitting to the occasion is proI raised. The acceptances compared I with nominations over the eight events i work out in advance of 75 per cent., a result which adequately explains itself. It is indeed gratifying to find the programmes ol’ the local club securing such prominent support and the public, in their turn, will have reward in the enhanced standard of the racing. THE CLAUDELANDS TRACK.

IN EXCELLENT ORDER. The Claudelands track, on which ■ the Waikato Club will hold its Autumn meeting on Saturday, is in excellent order. The caretaker, Mr 11. Rowse, is entitled to a lot ol' credit for the efficiency reached in this connection, not only with the track hut also with the general surroundings at local headquarters. The Waikato Club ' has every reason for priding itself on i the fact that it is up-to-date in its j accommodation, both for horses and ] the public. In this important res- ! pect, ’Claudelands headquarters will i hold their own with the best, a tribute which is unstintedly bestowed by those in a position to offer an opinion jon the point. The period approaching a meeting is a busy time for the officials and the executive of the club but they can be relied upon to have everything in order for race day. Given Rue weather oil Saturday the patronage to the Autumn meeting promises to be very extensiveAN INNOVATION.

BET EARLY THE SLOGAN. A matter which can, with advantage have attention drawn it, is the decision of the Waikato Club to “speed up” the times for the closing of the totaliI salor at its meeting at Claudelands next, Saturday. The interval between races is usually 45 minutes, but over the concluding events on the programme ahead this margin will be pruned to the extent of five minutes each time, which will mean that the last race will finish earlier than is the custom at most meetings. It is a wise policy, too, and once the public arc aware of it they will not ioiler and cause a jamb with the last minute

rush that is so orten made by investors. This warning is given so that they will be on the qui vivc and make “Bet Early” their slogan. SALE OF TROTTING STOCK. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. At Mr 11. Matson’s sale of trotting stock at ltangiora to-day, there was not extensive bidding, but several of the stock of Mr C. E. Lindsay and Mr R.
