THE CAMBRIDGE BRANCH. MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Cambridge branch of the Farmers’ Union Mr T. W. Norman presided over a small mealing. Mr R. H. Feisst reported that the Sub-provincial conference would take place on Friday, April 4. A number of remits from the Remits Committee had been forwarded. Included in the remits is one asking "that the National Dairy Association endeavour to co-ordinate the activities of co-operative dairy companies with a view to prevent overlapping. Other new remits are:—“That closer co-ordination .of co-operative dairy companies in the marketing of their •produce has now become an urgent problem, and with a - view to remedying this position Die National Dairy Association be requested to convene an early Dominion conference.” “That this conference is strongly of opinion that any system of unemployment insurance is unnecessary wiiile large areas of undeveloped land remain, but advocates partial development of undeveloped Grown lands on the group system as a forerunner to permanent land settlement as a corrective of existing unemployment.” “That this conference demands Die abolition of compulsory industrial arbitration as now applied under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act.” “That owners or occupiers of lands upon which ragwort has become established should he compelled to stock sufficient sheep upon it at all times to control the ragwort.” Farmers’ Railway Excursion. The stationmaster, Cambridge, forwarded circular anent the raihvay and steamer .excursion to the South Island Tile proposal was received with appreciation, and it was decided that Messrs Norman, Feisst and Hewitt he a committee to further tiie matter. It was also felt that the excursion should be advertised in the newspapers, and it was decided to write Die stationmaster to this effect. Obstetrical Drive. The secretary of the local committee wrote requesting a donation in connection with the appeal of the Dominion Obstetrical Society towards the endowment of a chair. Cull Cow Soheme. Representing the organisers, the Waikato and Thames Valley Calf Byproducts Company, Mr E. W. White waited on the branch in connection with the cull cow scheme as outlined recently in Cambridge at a public meeting. Dir. White gave details of the organising of district 'committees. He stated that at the present time the price offering for cull cows on the hooks was 23s for prime cow beef and 10s for boners and bulls. The administration charges worked out at about l-8d per lb. Mr White mentioned that one difficulty at the present time was lack of shipping space and it Avould continue for some Dane on account of smaller freights coming from the Old Country. The cull cow movement was discussed in general, it being generally appreciated that it was a highly desirable movement in proteeUng dairying interests. Finally, on the motion of Mr Feisst, it was resolved Biat the branch give its support to the scheme and that efforts he made to arrange for an agent-collector. The following district committee was set up: Messrs Geo. Empson (acting convener), Lea (Fencourt), R. J. Foster (Goodwood), H. Watkins (Fencourt), E. G. Jeans (Whitehall), and J. A. Wallace (Maungatautari).
