TROTTING.

WAIKATO MEETING. ACCEPTANCES POSTEDGOOD FIELDS ENGAGED.

Splendid entries in every event have been received for the Autumn meeting of the Waikato Trotting Club, to be held on the Club's course, tkaudelands, on April 5. Tlie acceptances over all are 20 m excess of last year, and when it j--taken into consideration that 1 lac nominations were below last year’s .figure, this is indeed gratifying. A' useful team from Christchurch, which includes Morning Sun, Brook Pointer, Pearl Logan and Sir Guy are making the Waikato trip, while Taranaki will be represented in Kolmar. Well known Auckland stables augmented with, Waikato material should provide followers of the light harness spoil with a fine and interesting programme. The W’aikato Handicap, the leading event on the card, will he contested bv the splendid held of 18, an increase oil the held to start in this race last year. The Members Handicap has drawn the small but useful field of eight trotters. The following table shows i the 'comparison between the acceptances for this and last year's meeting: -

The owner of Peter Bingen has advised the secretary of the Waikato Trotting Club that, owing to unforeseen circumstances, the Kelson Bingen horse will be unable to carry out his contemplated attempt on the world’s mile record for a grass track. This was to have been made at the meeting next Saturday.

AN APPRECIATED INNOVATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The Cheviot Trotting Club has introduced something new to race meetings in Canterbury by publishing in its race-card the post positions drawn by the different acceptors. Where a good position at the barrier means so much to a horse’s chances the innovation will be appreciated.
