HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF GOVERNORS. ROUTINE BUSINESS. The Board of Governors of the Hamilton High School met yesterday afternoon, the chairman (Mr €. L. Mac Diarmid) presiding. Also present were Dr. 11. Dougles, Messrs J. R. Fow, J. Primrose, F. A. Snell, R. English (secretary) and B. Wilson (principal). Staff. The Education Department wrote stating that it was noted from a report of the meeting of the Board of Governors published in the Waikato Times of March 1, that it was decided to promote Mias B. M. S. Campbell and Messrs M. G. Gudex and A. P. Nelson, and to call for applications for two additional “D” grade teachers. It was pointed out that the decision of the board to promote the teachers referred to was not in accordance with the regulations. These required that every vacant position should be advertised in the Education Gazette, and as the department did not appear to have received any advertisement for publication in the Gazette it asked for particulars of the proposal. The chairman explained that on receipt of the letter ho discussed the matter with the principal and decided that if it was a technical error they should accept the department's ruling, and therefore the positions were advertised.

Mr Wilson pointed out that the teachers in question were already on the staff; they had the grade and qualifications and were satisfactory teachers. It seemed hardly fair to invite applications from tiie whole country when the board was perfectly satisfied with the present occupants of the positions.— The board concurred with the department’s ruling, and a committee was appointed to deal with the subject. The principal reported that he had received several applications for the two “D” grade positions which would become vacant, and was considering them. It was apparent that many teachers were seeking employment. The application of Miss E. H. Griffiths, L.R.1.A.M., for the position of music mistress was approved. General. The location and plans for additions to the principal's study were approved, the department to he askled for a grant for the necessary work.
