PADDY’S MARKET. OYER £6O RAISED. The Paddy’s Market arranged by the School Welfare League in aid of the ground improvements fund and Hie sports fund, was held In the school grounds at Ngaruawahia. The programme was cari;ied out with wonderful enthusiasm. A largo number of people were present. At 2 p.m. Hie children taking part in tire fancy dress parade moved off from tnc'Town Hall and, headed by the military band from llopu Hopu camp, whose services were very kindly given, entered the school grounds. The winners, as selected by Mesdames Jack and Sutherland, were: Girls (most original) : Kath. Little and Ngaire Flemming, representing “ Help the Mothers” and “Save the Babies.” Boys (most original) : Raymond Robinson. a Nigger .Boy, Girls (best dress) ; Marie Brewer, “ Pansy.” Boys (best dross) : Malcolm Collins “ Page Bov." Tiie stall-holders worked bard and organised various competitions, which greatly assisted the gross takings. Among Hie winners of tiie competitions were: Lingerie, donated by Miss Louden, won by Mrs. Feeney; luncheon set. donated by Mrs. Isdale, won by Miss Birch; eak’c, presented by'Mrs. Robson, won by H. H. Hill; cake, presented by Mrs. Sampson, won by Mrs. A. .lack; pig, donated by Mr. Little, won by Mr. Christie; turkey, donated by Mr. Katavitch, won by Mr. Christie; donation of honey, won by Mr. Lee Martin, who guessed 323 beans in a bottle, the correct number being 324; fancy doll, won by Mrs. Isdale; pyjamas, donated by Mrs. Stowe, won by J. D. Jackson; rooster, won by Mr. A. Graham; Chocolates, won by Mrs. G. Moon. In some cases the prizes won were put up for auction at the end of the day, when Mr. L. Pettit auctioned all produce not disposed of. The nett profits for ihe afternoon were over £6O. which will carry a £1 for £i subsidy.
