PUBLIC OPINION,

expressed by correspondents, whose letters are welcome, but for whose views we have no responsibility. Correspondents are requested to write In ink. CAR MISHAP NEAR CAMBRIDGE. (To 'the Editor.) Sir, —The account of this mishap, fts published, was very misleading. It stales that in addition to the driver « the vehicle contained five passengers. As a matter of fact it contained eight. Why were Mr and Mrs Germann not mentioned? It also says that tire car skidded in the sand put down by the Matamala Council. I fail to see how that could be, as the bend where the car left-the road'is in perfect order—■could not be better if tar-sealed —and has a good cant on its proper side to lake the car round the corner. Instead the car did not take the bend, but went straight for about 35 yards from the centre of the road, crashed through some trees, leapt over a bank Bft high, somersaulted end over end three times, and came to rest 50 feet below the road, not 15 feet, and for three to be only hurt was simply marvellous. To blame the Matamala Council is mere piffle. Why did the police not make more enquiry? Although Mr and Mrs.Sehvyn Germann stayed in Cambridge two days after they were asked no questions, and as far as I know none of the others were. —I am, etc., F. CUNNINGHAM (Senr.)„ Kaipaki, March S.
