Walter Hagen, partnered by Hie Australian open golf champion, Mr. Ivo Whit ton, easily defeated the youthful local champions, Hattersley and Wines, at Manly. Hattersley is a longhitter and the crowd was interested to see how he compared with the visitor. The local man often made the longer drives, but Hagen was straighten. He went out in 35. returning in 37. He and Whit-ton won by 2 up. Hagen's greatest shots were two with a wooden club, which carried him almost on to the fifth green, bringing a ga:jp of amazement from the onlookers. He was only at fault at the 12th. and 14th. holes, losing a stroke at each. At all the others the champion holed out in par.
