The trial of William Podmorc at Winchester Assizes on the charge of having murdered Vivian ,Messiter at Southampton ended in a verdict of guilty and he was sentenced to death. William Podmore, a witness at the inquest concerning the death of MOssiter, whose statement to the police suggested that he was the last man to see Messltor alive, was arrested by Scotland Yard officers as he was leaving Wandsworth Prison on December IC. lie was taken to Southampton, where he was charged with murder, and remanded. The body of Mr Messiter was found inside a private garage at Southamtpon. The door was padlocked outside. Mr -Mess’tor had been missing 10 weeks., A postmortem examination revealed the fact that death occurred two months before the discovery.
