Mr. \V. F. Webster, Government Veterinarian of New Plymouth, who lias been in Hamilton for a week investigating diseases in cattle, returns to New Plymouth to-morrow. Messrs T. W. Thompson, W. J. Taylor and W. Hcbditch will represent the Loval Hamilton Lodge, Manchester Unity, at the district conference, which will commence at Auckland on Wednesday. Mr F. Best, of Hamilton, Grand Master ot' the Auckland District of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, will leave to-morrow for Auckland, where he will preside over the annual conference which will commence on Wednesday. Mr George I-loest has been appointed Danish 'Consul-General for Australia and New Zealand. He will reside at Sydney where lie is to replace Mr 0. l/unii, who has been transferred io Shanghai. King George has approved of the appointment of Mr. Wilfrid Jackson, Colonial Secretary of the Gold to be Governor and Commander-in-Ciiief of Mauritius, in succession to Sir Herbert James Reid, who has retired. Mr W. Duncan, of Takapuna, has been on a short visit to Raglan. Mr Duncan is an old settler of the Raglan district. Born in Scotland in 1833 be came with his parents to New Zealand in the ship “Gladiator,” which arrived at Auckland in 180-1. Shortly afterwards they went on to Raglan. The Maori War was oil and the district very unsettled. A portion of Hie 38th Regiment was stationed in Raglan at the time.
