Casgrain, the Liberal whip, in the House 10-day moved an amendment lo I lie Conservative amendment proposing that instead of the Order-in-Counc.il extending Ihe Australian ’Jrealy to New Zealand being rescinded, the Government should proceed with negotiations for a treaty and that the Oidei-in-Council continue in force in the meantime. Previously the Minister of finance, ,Mr Dunning, said the Conservative amendment was an effort to make poliI fioal capital out of the hearing, which I is not vet complete, before the Tariff Board. “ There was no definite treaty at tlie moment, hut the Government ! had already indicated to New Zealand jits desire lo enter into a real Treaty. If the. resolution before the House were i passed it would impair the chances of j future negotiations. Mr Dunning anI nounoed (hat lie was asking his colleagues to move an amendment to the amendment, which Mr Casgrain did. Mr E. W. Rowe, a Conservative, previously slated that tiie New Zealand agreement was so serious that from Kingston (Ontario) to Montreal dairy farms could be bought from £5 lo £8 an acre.
