THEFT OF POULTRY

AN ORGANISED TRADE. HEAVY LOSSES REPORTED. (By Telegraph—rress Association.) DUNEDIN, Friday. It was stated at the Poultry-men’s Conference to-day that the theft of poultry was an organised business in the North, raids being made with lorries. Casc-S' were cited in Auckland and Christchurch where 500 and 400 -pullets were stolen one night. Wellington also suffered, but Dunedin reported that its poutry losses occurred during railway transit. The conference resolved lo draw the attention of the Minister of Justice to the lightness of sentences imposed on poultry thieves, also to take the Minister of Railways, to task in regard to thefts from trains.
