Proposals are being drafted by the Federal Treasurer, Mr E. G. Theodore, to enlarge tile scope of the Commonwealth Bank. Their object is to divide the bank into two departments, one of which would exercise the functions of a central reserve bank, and the other operate as a trading bank, which would come directly into competition with existing trading banks.
