Galll-Curcl Sings Juliet. Amelita Galli-Curci and Edward Johnson shared the plaudits of the large audience at the Metropolitan Opera House in Gounod’s ingratiating opera “Romeo and Juliette” (says the New York Times). Lawrence Tibbett as Mercutio made his last appearance in New York for the season. Others in the cast included Gladys Swarthout as Stephano, Henrietta Wakefield as Gertrude, Leon Rothier as the Friar, and Messrs Paltrinieri, Altglass, Gandolfl, Ananian, Ludilcar, and Macpherson. Louis Hasselmans conducted. musical Moments. Dame Melba will return to Melbourne this year, probably before Melbourne Cup day. She is at present wintering in Egypt. Mr John Bishop, conductor of the Royal Wellington Choral Union, has been appointed conductor of the Wellington Commercial Travellers’ Choir. News comes of the establishment of two new choral societies in New Zealand —one at Ashburton, under Mr W. 11. Dixon, conductor of the Christchurch Society; and the other at Greymouth. Jascha Heifetz, violinist, gave his first recital of the season in New York on January 20. The Royal Philharmonic Society of Sydney show's a deficit of £B7 on the vcar’s working.
