SUCCESSFUL MEETING

HAMILTON BRANCH W.C.T.U. The Hamilton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union held their meeting on Thursday afternoon in St. Paul’s parlour. .Mrs Jones presided over a large gathering. This marked the 3ist anniversary of the Hamilton branch. The president’s opening remarks and Bible-reading were appropriate to the occasion. jVirs Ward was .selected superintendent anti-gambling, Mrs Jackson Sabbath observance, and Miss Parry backblock literature department. Miss Amburn reported 392 children on the cradle roll. . Mrs Jones read a paper on the life of Miss Frances Willard, one of the outstanding women of the nineteenth century. Xew members were welcomed to the branch. A pianoforte solo played by Miss Mavis Jones and afternoon tea served by the executive were most enjoyable. Mrs E. G. Johnston will represent the local union at the annual convention to be held at Timaru this month.
