AUSTRALIAN MINES.

TERMS OF SETTLEMENT.

INDICATIONS OF ANTAGONISM.

ACCEPTANCE IN THE BALANCE-

United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. —Copyright

SYDNEY, Dec. 4

•Meetings of miners on the northern coalfields, called in order to discuss the terms of settlement of the coal dispute reached by the owners and miners’ representatives, will be held at the week-end. The men’s delegates to the recent conference are strongly urging acceptance of the terms, but there is considerable hostility in some quarters, and an attempt will be made by the militant miners to have the terms rejected. There was a significant development to-day at Lithgow, in the western district, where the miners, at a mass meeting, unanimously rejected the terms of settlement, and also pledged themselves to fight any kind of wage reduction, as suggested in the agreement, to the bitter end. The position, therefore, is still in the balance.
