Spurious coins have again made their appearance in New Plymouth. The sixth new motor ambulance was installed for duty at the Free Ambulance station at Wellington last week. ■ It is stated that the cost of the new Ivelburn viaduct at Wellington will be approximately £21,500. Week-end trips to the gannet rookery at Cape Kidnappers are now popular. The birds are reported to be numerous this year. Casual employees of the Post and Telegraph Department in Auckland, who received notice of dismissal, will be found employment by the Cabinet Committee. The memorial band rotunda at Island Bay, Wellington, which is now well on the way, will cost £920, towards which the residents have made a substantial contribution. Owing to the increased telegraph business between Hamilton, and Auckland > the reconstruction of the line between here and Iluntly has been found necessary. The road and railway telegraph lines are being combined in the new work. Tlie South Auckland Caledonian Pipe Band rendered a very enjoyable programme at the Hamilton Lake yesterday afternoon. The lake was crowded with picnickers, who thoroughly enjoyed the programme. About 2000 people have been invited by the New Zealand Shipping Company to an afternoon tea pony on board the company’s new moior liner Rangitikl at Prince’s Wharf this afternoon. The vessel is the liVst ol' Inc three 16,755 tons- motor liners built for the company. A reduction of one penny a pound in the retail price of superfine butter was made to-day.' The new price for superfine, Is Bd, will be the same as that for first grade, with second grade brands only id a pound less. It is stated that the reduction had been made to bring local prices into line with the London parity. Considering the state of tire market there it was thought only fair that there should be a reduction. The revised price wiij be retrospective to the trade as from last Thursday.
