METHODIST CHURCH.
MEETING AT MORRINSVILLE At the quarterly meeting of the Methodist Church at Morrinsville the Rev. E. E. Sage presided over a representative gathering of circuit officials. Reference was made to a recent membership reception service at Waitoa, when 22 new members were received. The senior membership roll shows a net Increase of 24 for the year, with a total of 208. Cheering reports were received of the Sundayi schools and Bible classes in the various centres. Rev. A. T. Kent stated that a boy scouts troop had been formed at Waitoa, with encouraging results. The Foreign Mission appeal had met with a fine response and £IOB had been generously subscribed to date.
The balance-sheet, presented by Mr F. West, revealed the satisfactory state of the circuit finance, and Messrs G. F. Oates and P. C. McNeill w-.re appointed to audit the accounts. Arrangements were finalised for the visit of the Maori Mission parly this month and for the orphanage appea’. in Dunedin, also for the anniversary services of the Morrinsville Sunday school and Tahuna Church.
A suggestion to hold a flower service as a tribute to ttie elderly folk of the circuit was cordially received. It was decided to commence monthly Sunday evening services at Te Puninga alternately with the Presbyterian Church. Owing lo summer lime coming into operation next Sunday, it- was decided to commence the evening service at 7.30 p.m. in Morrinsville and 8 p.m. elsewhere during the period. Messrs G. Hanna, M. Major and G. H. Memdell were received as local preachers on trial. Holiday arrangements were made for the ministers in January. A unanimous invitation was confirmed to the Rev. F. G. Brown, of Matarnata, to succeed the Rev. E. E. Sage as superintendent minister next year. Appreciative reference was made to the splendid work done by the -cv. A. F. Kent at the Waitoa end of the circuit, and he was unanimously invited lo remain a second year.—ln reply Mr Kent expressed his pleasure at doing so. A strong committee was set up to consider a proposal for a motor conveyance for the use of the second minister and to report to the next meeting. Messrs F. West, G. F. Oates and G. D.Sealey were appointed lay representatives to synod at Cambridge in November, with Messrs P, Rushton, W. C. Woodley and W. Johnston as substitutes.
