The Paris Salon, the nearest thing on the Continent to the British Olympic, will be held during the first fortnight in October. Six makes of British cars will be exhibited, and Germany will be represented by the same number, Austria showing one and Gzccho-Slovakia one. There will be seven Italian makes, and three Belgian productions. French makes naturally predominate, over 30 factories having secured space, while American makes will number 28, a surprising evidence of the energy shown in respect to the imported car. Dealer: “Smith, why don’t you sell that rattle-trap and buy a new car?" Smith: “Nothing doing. It makes so much noise I can't hear my wife’s directions from the back seat.” Sunday is a dangerous day for the motorist in Christchurch (remarks husbands seem to choose that day to “Chassis" in the Sun), as so many teach their wives how to drive. Two motorists have complained to me that they nearly had smashes with cars driven by women who were being instructed by persons who must have been husbands, judging by the gesticulations visible.
