Answers to Queries. I “Year.’'—tSO 1 was the year in which Jim Corbett ami Peter Jackson i fought their memorable 61 rounds draw in San Francisco. “Height,” Les Darcy’s height was sft 6ins and Arthur Cripps sft Dins, THE RECENT TOURNAMENT. LESLIE’S DECISIVE MARGIN. It was evident, from the attendance at Monday night's tournament that it is a difficult matter to make a I success of professional bouts in this j centre. Of course a lot depends on j the pair matched. If Bert Brown | had been able to keep his engageI ment there is no doubt that he would | have been a good drawing card. So j far as the bout staged by the professional pair G. Leslie (Auckland) j and! “KM” Smith (Stratford) was ; concerned, Leslie won by a very wide margin of points. Although impetuous at times there was no doubt about Ills eagerness to make matters merry. Smith was altogether too much on the defensive to make it an attractive bout. There is no doubt that Leslie is a hard hitler. He kept on top of his man foi most of the contest and Smith was feeling the effects towards the finish of the heavy battery he was subject to. Against a more suitable opponent physically a bout with Leslie as one of the principals should go well. For some time prior to taking part in the local engagement Leslie had been troubled with a cold which undoubtedly had some effect on him in the actual bout. It has, of course, to be allowed that Smith was called on at the eleventh hour to fulfil this engagement.
