ACTOR CLAIMS £SOOO.

AWARDED £905 DAMAGES. SEQUEL TO MOTOR COLLISION. Leon Gordon, whose evidence ever\ night for several weeks was a featun of the police court scene in "The Flying Squad,” at the Theatre Royal, had a less dramatic experience In No. 3 Jury Court, when he was called as a witness in the motor accident case in which he and Ben Lewln, an actor, were Injured (says a Sydney paper). The accident occurred In Allison Road, Randwick, on July 3, 1928, at a time when Leon Gordon was playing "White Cargo” at the Theatre Royal. Ben Lewln, who suffered serious injuries to one knee, sued Victor Hollis Bush, as the owner of the car concerned In the collision with Leon Gordon’s car, in which Lew r ln was riding, claiming £SOOO damages in respect of his injuries, alleging that they were caused by the negligent driving of defendant’s agent. Leon Gordon said his car was crashed into by defendant’s car. Lewin was thrown out, and lay in the roadway huddled up, with his head underneath his body. “lie just looked like a sack," said witness, “and I thought he was dead. He was covered with blood.” Mr Gordon said he had known plaintiff for many years as an actor, and they had been together in America as well as In Australia. His injury, said witness, would interfere very much with his work on the stage. Evidence was given by Mr Lewln that- his out-of-pocket expenses amounted to £515, to which would have to be added Dr. McKelvie’s account for three months’ treatment In a private hospital. He estimated that the total of his out-of-pocket expenses incurred owing to the accident, and loss of salary, would amount to £lOls. The defendant did not appear. The Jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff for £905.
