DESTRUCTIVE FIRES.
OUTBREAK AT TE KUITI.
LARGE STORE DESTROYED

A disastrous fire occurred in King Street just after midnight, when a large wooden store, owned by Messrs. .Barraud and Abraham, was completely destroyed, with all its contents. In front was an iron-constructed building, used by Messrs. Barraud and Abraham as offices, and Messrs. Ronald Cooke and Co., as a grocery shop. This was badly gutted and stock was destroyed by smoke and water. Part of a wooden building at the back was used by Messrs. Cooke and Co. as a bulk store and part by Messrs. Barraud and Abraham. The latter’s stock was valued at about £SOO, and Messrs. Cook and Co.’s stock was valued at a much larger sum, but lliesi: insurances are not available. The buildings were insured for £2OOO in the New Zealand Insurance Office.
The cause of iiic fire is unknown, but it is supposed to have started in packing cases ouLslde the building.
