CONVERTED A CAR.

AN EXCITING INCIDENT. RIGHTFUL OWNER THRASHED. POLICEMAN BADLY HANDLED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, MondayWilliam Alexander Robertson pleaded guilty to converting a car to his own use and assaulting a constable. The Police stated the owner of the car missed It from a football match on Saturday and at midnight he saw It being driven by accused who was accompanied by other men. The owner gave chase In a taxi, overhauling the accused. Ho remonstrated with the accused for taking the car, when the occupants gave him a thrashing. As the car was again moving off a constable Jumped on to the running board and also got a rough handling, being punched about the head badly.

Accused who disclosed the names of his companions, wa3 sentenced to two months’ Imprisonment on the first charge and one month on the second. The sentences are to be concurrent.
