COCAINE HAUL

VIOLENT WOMEN. FIGHT WITH POLICE. Two women, one of whom is aleged to have been in possesion of 20 packets of cocaine, put up a desperate light when approached by detectives in East Sydney. _ For some time, Detectives Wickham and S. Thompson, of the Drug Bureau, have been watching many people who are alleged to be engaged in the drug traffic. They visited a house in Darlinghurst, where a party was in progress, and arrested a man and woman, who, it is alleged, were in possesion of “snow,” which was concealed in a matchbox. While in Hargrave Street, East Sydney, Detectives Wickham and Thompson who were accompanied by Miss Armfield and Mrs Mitchell, of the women police, saw two women, whom they decided to interrogate. When the women, one of whom is 62 years of age, and the other, her daughter, aged 24, saw the police approaching, they appeared to make an attempt to escape. The police closed on them, and. after a short but sharp struggle, which was witnessed by a crowd of people, took them to the Central Police Station, where they were charged. It is alleged that on one of the women twenty packets of cocaine were found wrapped in a silk pouch.
