That there is need for an amendment of the iaw A Legal Flaw in one particular that direction has been Requires Righting, brought lo the notice of the Legislature by a question propounded for the Minister of Justice. Mr J. McCombs, the member for Lyttelton, who has sponsored the subject, has enquired whether the law la that a
man may beat his wife and, provided she can run away and does not do so, the husband cannot be convicted for an offence. If such is the case, and there has been a recent test to indicate so, the Minister of Justice is being ashed to have the law altered so that Hie plea that the woman so treated could have run away from her own home, will not defeat the ends of justice. An amendment in the direction indicated will ensure safeguarding the sufferer, provide a penalty for the wrong-doer and obviate the incurring of heavy expense by individuals and the State w'thout the fullest measure of rectification, possible by legal means, being secured.
In the House of Representatives this week the question of A Laboratory establishing a field for laboratory in the WaiThe Waikato, kato was referred to by Mr J. A. Young, the member for Hamilton. The reply received from the Minister of Agriculture was to the effect that full and careful consideration is being given to the matter. The claims made by Mr Young that no other part of the Dominion offered close at hand so large a field for clinical study and pathological research among dairy cattle as did this district, can be amply substantiated. With such a highly developed institution as the Ruakura Farm of Instruction in the district, the starting off point is already available. The importance of a laboratory situated in this district has been fully presented to the responsible officers of the Government and it is hoped that before long the efforts launched for the establishment of such an institution will reach fruition.
