TAMAHERE SCHOOL,
FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL. Tamahere and Koromatua teams were fortunate in having a beautiful afternoon to play their football and basketball matches. The games were watched with great interest by parents and friends from both districts In spite of the fact that neither schoo. has had much experience in match play, the games were remarkably wel played. An exciting game of football resulted in Koromatua's favour by 5 points to nil. In the basketball match the Tamahere girls were considerably ahead ai half-time, the scores benig 13 to 4. B;. this time, however, the visitors had settled down to playing on a strangi court, and put up a very good fight The game resulted: Tamahere 15, Koromatua 10.
Afternoon tea was served in the school-room for the adults, while the
local girls entertained their young visitors outside picnic-fashion. Altogether the children had a delightfu afternoon.
For three or four years matches have not been played by the Tamahere school. That it has been possible to form a football team is largely owing to the help of Mr J. McKenzie. Tin boys’ ages range from seven to 12 so it is not an easy task to form a wellbalanced team. With Mr McKenzie as their coach, the boys have every chance of making good and the interest he is Hiking is much appreciated by parents and teachers. Messrs Selby, Shaw and Jones also gave valuable assistance in preparinf the sports grounds at the beginning of the season, and this, too, has been much appreciated by all concerned.
